Asian food will always be one of my favorites not only because it’s what I grew up with but also because it has such punchy flavor. I don’t think I’ve had an Asian dish that I’ve not liked. My favorite type of Asian food (other than Vietnamese) is probably Korean food. Korean food is probably the epitome of punchy flavor. Everything I’ve ever had with Korean ingredients is just so darn good! I’ve had everything from fusion-y Korean fast food to traditional dishes. So I was so stoked this week to finally make my first foray into cooking Korean food. The most common ingredient used in Korean food is gochujang. It is a savory and spicy fermented condiment made from red chili powder, glutinous rice, fermented soybean powder, barley malt powder, and salt. This sauce is used in a variety of different dishes in Korean cuisine such as tofu soup, spicy meat dishes, and bibimbap. I am of the opinion that you can use it with almost any ingredient.
